Thoughts from Inspire Day 1
Dynamics 365
QBS group
So, Inspire the largest Microsoft partner conference ever started today in Las Vegas. It was kicked off with Gavriella Schuster congratulating the partners for their contribution to Microsoft’s success during FY18 and highlighted some of the amazing growth that Microsoft was able to achieve with the broad partner Ecosystem. In the first 3 quarters of Microsoft’s FY18, Dynamics 365 business grew 65%, what was even more impressive was the CSP business growth of 234%. To me, this should be clear to partners that if you place a bet on Dynamics 365 and CSP, you are in the right spot for the foreseeable future.
Judson Althoff who leads the Sales and Marketing HQ organization in Seattle, continued to talk about the Intelligent Cloud and intelligent edge, which seems to be the major theme this year at Inspire. The core message is that it is not a vision or bunch of product announcements, but it is reality right now. They went on to show Carlsberg brewery from Denmark as a real life example of that strategy. What I really liked about the demo they showed was the integration. Integration of all the different clouds, the productivity, the data and business application cloud. Up to a point where it wasn’t necessarily clear if the user interface actually connects to Office 365, to Power BI or to the SAP ERP solution sitting on Azure. Once integrated so deeply, amazing user experiences can be created. I think this is where we can shine as Dynamics SMB partners. Bringing this integration and therefore amazing user experiences to SMBs. I totally believe this will happen anyway, because the customer benefits are compelling enough. The insights customer will get into their business, the acceleration in time-to-market they can enjoy, the higher productivity each employee can realize, to name a few. The question is, will that integration be driven from partners that start the journey from a productivity, a data platform or a business application perspective? You know where I would like this journey to start. Hence why I am convinced Dynamics 365 Business Central is only the start for us, we need to embrace the Power Platform, with Power Apps, Power BI and Flow. Then we will lead the integration and become even more valuable with solutions in front of customers.
Another opportunity of this integration came across in one of the SMB sessions today at Inspire. They showcased a few partners that turned their solutions into a scalable cloud business. One was Carbonite, a company that offers endpoint protection as PaaS under Azure. If I see statistics that in SMB, 72% of employees use unauthorized free file sharing services or 64% use personal devices at work and they all store business data, I wonder if integrating end point protection should not become part of solutions our partners bring to SMB customers? I know many do, but should we also drive that integration even further as QBS? One of the topics, I would love to get your input and feedback. But for now, I am looking forward to the Dynamics Partner Celebration, where we have the honor to be Inner Circle members for 2018/2019 and to continue to represent our community as best as we can.
Best regards from Vegas
